Everyone elected on November 3 takes office on Friday, January 1, 2027, and I'll update this list then. Calls and emails to legislators' Capitol offices reach them during the session and most weeks outside it.

County boards, school boards and the Legislature meet in public, and most take public comment. Each meeting below says where it came from: the body's own calendar, its published dates, or its regular schedule, which can change. Confirm the time before you go.

Your county government and school boards

Outside New York City, each of New York's 57 counties is run by an elected county board - a county legislature or board of legislators in most counties, and a board of supervisors made up of the town supervisors in others - while cities, towns and villages handle most day-to-day services. New York City's five boroughs are also counties but have no county government of their own; the City Council and the Mayor govern them, and each borough elects a borough president.

The New York State Legislature

The 2027 session starts on Wednesday, January 6, 2027.

Senate and Assembly committees take public testimony at public hearings posted on the Legislature's hearing calendar. Each hearing notice includes a reply form to return to committee staff by the listed deadline; oral testimony is often by invitation only and is limited to a few minutes. Written testimony can be submitted, and committees ask for copies of prepared statements in advance.
